5 simple steps to this bright, airy (and slightly naughty) European bathroom

Achieve the look of this bright, airy (and naughty) European bathroom

1. A bright white start, from floor to ceiling

Keep the floors clear and steer clear of dust-gathering bathroom rugs. Designate a place to hang your bath mat to dry, and only lay it down when showering.

2. Well chosen splashes of warm, bold color

The yellow toilet seat makes this loo stand out, and the complimentary laundry bin pulls the look together. Choose a bright color that will make an impact (think orange, yellow, or even yellow-green). Select one or two places to feature it, but DON’T OVERDO IT! Keep in mind, white should still be the dominant color in the room.

3. Keep it simple and functional, and store only what you need to in the bathroom

The bathroom in this European apartment is large and spacious because it has to be – it’s three American spaces in one (bathroom, laundry room, and linen closet).  There’s no linen closet outside in the hall. There’s no cabinet under the sink. But this bathroom is spacious enough to house a vintage metal freestanding cabinet in the corner. It serves as a linen closet, a storage space for cleaning supplies, and a vanity for bathroom odds and ends like toothbrushes, makeup and other supplies.

If you’ve got a designated space other than your bathroom for storing towels and other odds and ends in your home, by all means keep them there! The more you can see the white walls in your bathroom, the more bright and airy it will feel.

4. Let the light shine in

Big windows are a big help, but if you’ve got limited natural light in your bathroom, choose some bright, warm bulbs to screw in to your light fixtures. One overhead and one above your mirror should do the trick.

5. Bring in the raunch!

The lessee of this Berlin apartment added some naughtiness to her bathroom with a raunchy poster and some seemingly stolen signage from around the city. The TOILET.CAM (Bathroom Scenes) posters are available in two sizes, and a plethora of replica vintage metal signs can be purchased online, too.
